Tina Parr has been an Adjunct Professor at Olivet Online since 2015, teaching Introduction to Statistics and Finite Math. She has taught math in the public schools in the Chicagoland area for nearly two decades. While teaching math in Skokie, IL, in 1994, I was given the Award of Excellence in teaching by the Illinois Math and Science Academy.
Tina received her Bachelor of Science in Education with a Specialization in Math from Illinois State University and has continued her education through achieving a Master of Education from National-Louis University and an additional Master of Arts in Mathematics and Computer Science from Concordia University. Through of all of these achievements, her greatest joy has been in teaching, when students get that Ah-ha moment, especially in math. It’s a great feeling to know that she’s helping students achieve their goals. She enjoys the online experience and she texts, calls, and emails students regularly to help students feel they are having more of a traditional type of classroom experience.
Tina is thankful that as a Christian University, Olivet allows and encourages her to share her faith with my students. Every contact she has with her students is a chance to show them an example of living a Christian life. The online experience at Olivet enables her to have the opportunity to reach many students, regardless of their location.
Tina lives in Elmhurst, IL with her husband Tom. They’ve been married for 29 years and have a son who is 23 and a daughter who is 21. They are a very close family and love spending time together and traveling whenever they can.
