Nine Olivet alumni chosen for Kankakee County Chamber’s “40 Under Forty”

Recognition by your peers and your community is a double honor. Nine Olivet alumni recently received that honor as part of “40 Under Forty” in the greater Kankakee area: Nick Allen, Bryan Davis, Lesley Hertz, Justin Knight, Carolyn Mitchell, Robin Mroz, Tracey Noe, Marcus Strother and Brent Wright. They were nominated by members of the community and recognized for their outstanding achievements in their respective fields, as well as their contributions to the community.

Olivet named one of Best Christian Workplaces for 2014

Best Christian Workplaces Institute (BCWI) announces that Olivet has qualified as one of only five higher education workplaces named as Best Christian Workplaces in the United States for 2014. This is the ninth consecutive year that Olivet has earned this honor.  To be certified, an organization must complete the BCWI employee engagement survey and meet predetermined standards of excellence.

Groundbreaking partnership with MNU brings Ed.D. in Ethical Leadership to Kansas

Olivet Nazarene University and MidAmerica Nazarene University announce a collaborative partnership to offer a Doctor of Education in Ethical Leadership degree program on the MNU campus in Olathe, Kan. Through the agreement, associates of MNU and qualified applicants throughout the surrounding region will gain convenient access to this challenging, three-year doctoral program that is designed to meet the needs of today’s leaders, regardless of their chosen career fields. 

On Her Intended Journey: Rebecca Carter, family nurse practitioner

“I love having the opportunity to rebuild this clinic and watch it grow,” says Rebecca (Reel) Carter, MSN, APN, FNP-BC. “We’re finding ways to serve an underserved population in the Kankakee community.” Rebecca is the first graduate to complete all of the requirements of Olivet’s new Master of Science in Nursing: Family Nurse Practitioner degree program, and she received that degree in 2013. She also received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from Olivet in 2010.

Christian Business Faculty Association inspires professors from across the country

Olivet recently hosted the 2013 Christian Business Faculty Association (CBFA) conference on campus. The three-day conference provided a time for encouragement and academic, professional and personal growth.Dr. Don Daake, professor in Olivet’s Department of Business, served as the conference director. Attending were 175 participants and 30 guests, representing more than 30 universities or organizations. During the conference, more than 70 academic papers and presentations were made.

SGCS Partners with Community Colleges to Prepare More Nurses

Anticipated increase in demand for nursing services and impending retirements of baby boomers indicates that the need for registered nurses will continue to grow. The U.S. Labor Department predicted that there would be 712,000 new jobs for registered nurses between 2010 and 2020. Will there be enough nurses to fill all of those jobs and other openings that arise? Olivet is taking a proactive approach to address that challenge.
